In the name of Dogs!
Another little reminder for people to sterilize, sterilize, sterilize your pet.
According to the West Australian newspaper Sat, Jan, 12th, 2008 ther are 80 kittens a day put down at the cat haven.
Unless you are a licensed breeder of either dogs or cats there is no excuse for anyone not to sterilize a pet. Contact numbers for financial help with pet sterilization are: The Ruby Benjamin Foundation 9405 3905 and the Cat Sterilization Society 9397 5062.
Socialize, socialize, socialize your dog.
Many people walk their dogs and/or take them to the park. This is great for both parties.
However, dogs need to also be sterilized, vaccinated and wormed (heartworm especially) if they socialize with other dogs, or even if they are kept on a leash because these diseases are transmitted in the soil and dog poo.
For those people who choose to leave a dog in a backyard with little or no interaction with other dogs or humans other than for feeding then you are neglecting the proper care of your dog.
If you don't have the time to care for you dog the why own one in the first place?
If, for whatever reason you are unable to care properly for a pet then consider surrendering it to a shelter. Contact number are: Swan Animal Haven 9279 8485, RSPCA 9209 9300, Dogs Refuge Home Shenton Park 9381 8166. Acknowledging your inability to care for a pet takes courage and nobody would blame you for relinquishing it.
